Jains have a peculiar life style.
This was realised by the visionary founders - Shwetambar Sthanakwasi Jain Conference - and established a place where Jain students would be at home and their parents
at a peace of mind. Late Shri Navalmalji and Late Shri. Hastimalji Firodia came
forward with needed assistance. Maharashtra Jain Education Society, under the able
leadership of Shri Abhayji Firodia is monitoring the activities of the Hostel.
The hostel has nurtured our lives with discipline, team spirit and care for others.
We have learnt an art of living together at the hostel. The environment has created
a perfect bond between all of us and this bond has motivated us for establishment
of this Association.
Students passing out of the Hostel have been making their mark
in the society. May be in industry, business, social work or any other activity,
their success is distinct. Behind success of thousands of students, there is a well
laid foundation of discipline and culture, acquired at the Hostel.
Instead of gathering
in a small group on some occasions, an idea was mooted to create a platform for
all Ex Students to come together.
The idea of establishing a forum for Ex Students
was responded by past students with great enthusiasm. We received details from about
1200 alumni, but details of a good number of students are still awaited. We propose
to take the number to 2000 by the end of next year.
The Association is also launching
a Website. The website will not only provide a list of Ex Students, but shall become
a hub for all of us to interact, exchange our ideas and contribute whatever is possible
for mutual welfare of the members. The interactive website will generate a greater
dialogue between us and shall be instrumental in taking the cause deeper into our
lives. The Website allows members to update, modify or change their details to ensure
adequacy and correctness of information.
When we come together the outcome is definitely
going to be miraculous. We are capable, spirited, responsible and share the same
bond created at the Hostel. We can make an indivisible, strong, devoted team, which
can work for the benefit of the members and the present students of the Hostel.
I am overwhelmed to present this directory and the Website to you. I know that the
information is not complete , but an honest effort has been made in that direction.
This will be an ongoing activity to update the directory. There is always a scope
for improvement and I invite suggestions, even the criticism, which will go a long
way in making the directory more useful and more member friendly.
Behind
this gigantic task have gone efforts of my colleagues, Gunesh Sancheti , Rajendra Gugle
and other Committee Members. We are grateful to the the Hostel Management for all possible
help and support. My sincere thanks to the advertisers, the media and the supporters.
I also thank the critics who have, in a way, helped to make the directory better. My
thanks to Abhay Lunawat who designed and produced this beautiful work for us and Prabhat
Printing Works for equally excellent printing, within a short span of time. I would also
like to thank Mr. Kalpak Luniya from Obelisk Infosystems who has been
instrumental in developing this website.
I am sure, this directory and the website
will herald a new era of communication
between us to the benefit of the society, community and our beloved place called
the S.S.Jain - Firodia Hostel, Pune.
